Chilean Commission approves feral dog hunting proposal

The Agriculture Commission of the Chilean Chamber has approved a legislative proposal that would allow for the hunting of feral dogs. The initiative, which combines three separate proposals, passed the commission with 10 votes in favor and 2 against.

The project aims to amend the current Hunting Law to explicitly establish the State's duty to protect wildlife. The legislation seeks to address attacks by packs of feral dogs in rural areas, which pose a threat to both livestock and native wildlife species. Under the proposal, competent authorities would be tasked with implementing population control mechanisms for feral dogs to mitigate ecological and economic damage.
