Chilean commission to summon tech executives and politicians over disinformation

The Special Investigative Commission of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies has agreed to summon several political figures and technology executives to investigate the Cerimedo case. The inquiry focuses on the use of bots, trolls, disinformation, algorithmic manipulation, and artificial intelligence in electoral processes from 2020 onwards.

Invited individuals include politicians Evelyn Matthei, Jeannete Jara, and Camila Vallejo, as well as executives from Google, Meta, and X. The commission also seeks to hear from journalists and Nadia Beller, the complainant in the case involving Fernando Cerimedo. While the list of invitees has been approved, most are not legally obligated to attend as they do not hold public office.
