Chilean communities address sanitation and healthcare infrastructure needs

In Pucón, residents and executives from the sanitation company Aguas Araucanía have formed a working group to address recurring sewage overflows in the historic district. The overflows, which have increased following recent storms, are attributed to excessive groundwater, rain, and canal infiltration that overwhelm the pumping stations in lower sectors. While pumping stations have been reinforced, the company suggests a definitive solution may require structural works on rainwater collectors.

Simultaneously, in Puyehue, community leaders and the Kimün Newen Community Council are renewing efforts to demand the construction of a hospital. Currently, the area relies on primary care centers, forcing residents to travel over an hour to Osorno or other regions for complex emergencies. This lack of local infrastructure is particularly critical due to the high volume of traffic on International Route 215, which connects to the Cardenal Samoré border crossing.
