Chilean communities in Tierra del Fuego celebrate 216th anniversary of First Government Junta
Chilean communities in Tierra del Fuego celebrated the 216th anniversary of the First Government Junta with commemorative events in Río Gallegos and Río Grande.
In Río Gallegos, the central ceremony took place at Plaza San Martín, led by Chilean Consul General Cristian Blasco Torres. The event included the singing of both Argentine and Chilean national anthems, a floral offering to José de San Martín, and traditional folk dances such as the ‘baile de la bandera’ and ‘cuecas’. The Consulate also recognized residents Rita Miripillan Mansilla and José Almonacid for their contributions to the local Chilean cultural heritage.
In Río Grande, Mayor Martín Pérez attended celebrations organized by the Chilean Consulate at the IPRA Hall. Pérez emphasized the historical importance of the Chilean community to the city's identity, stating that Río Grande was built through the work and sacrifice of Chilean immigrants. He called for continued integration and the strengthening of ties between the two nations.
