Lucy Depablos resigns from Chile's Civil Service amid investigation
Lucy Depablos Chacón, a Venezuelan activist, has resigned from her position as Head of Communications and Citizen Participation at Chile’s National Civil Service, an agency under the Ministry of Finance.
The resignation follows an investigation launched by the Comptroller General of the Republic (Contraloría) regarding her hiring. The oversight body requested documentation to verify her academic and professional credentials, questioning her classification as an “expert” and the absence of a journalism degree for her role. The investigation also scrutinizes her monthly gross salary, which reaches up to 5.6 million pesos.
In her resignation letter, Depablos cited difficult public exposure that affected her personal and family life, noting that her opinions and image were used to question the National Director and the President. She expressed her gratitude to her colleagues and emphasized her respect for Chile, the country that welcomed her.
