Chilean Deputy Schalper queries SII over online betting VAT

Chilean Deputy Diego Schalper of the Renovación Nacional party has formally requested information from the Internal Revenue Service (SII) regarding Value Added Tax (VAT) payments collected from online betting platforms.

In an official inquiry addressed to SII Director Jorge Trujillo Puentes, Schalper seeks to determine if the state is collecting taxes from activities that may be operating illegally. The deputy requested data from July 2026 concerning the total amount of VAT collected from online gambling entities, the number of taxpayers involved, and whether the platforms are engaged in unauthorized intermediation or exploitation.

Schalper emphasized the need for oversight, stating that the government should not collect taxes from potentially illegal operations while ignoring their legal status. He also questioned whether SII officials have fulfilled their legal obligation to report any findings that could constitute criminal activity to the appropriate authorities.
