Chilean expatriates provide free online tutoring for students in Chile

Volunteers living in France, Canada and Portugal are dedicating two hours each week to tutor Chilean children through the non‑profit Fundación Conectado Aprendo. The program, promoted by the Directorate for Chileans Abroad (DICOEX), matches expatriates with students in various regions of Chile.

Participants include Margarita Cornejo, a Chilean consul in Paris, who assists a learner with reading; Cristián Miranda, a former university professor now in Montreal, who offers academic support; and Alejandra Leiva, a physical‑education teacher in Portugal, who tutors mathematics. Director Francisca Lewin says the tutors contribute not only knowledge but also confidence and opportunity for the next generation.

The initiative demonstrates how Chilean professionals abroad can maintain ties to their homeland while positively influencing education despite the distance.
