Chilean experts address rising problematic gambling risks

Experts and authorities recently gathered in Monticello for the III Hispanoamerican Symposium, ‘From Pathological Gambling to Responsible Gaming,’ to address the rising challenges of problematic gambling. The event, organized by Dreams, focused on prevention, early detection, and managing risk behaviors.

In Chile, the gambling landscape is divided between regulated casinos, which operate under Law No. 19.995 and are overseen by the Superintendency of Casinos of Games (SCJ), and illegal online platforms and clandestine casinos that lack regulatory oversight. This disparity complicates efforts to implement protective measures like access controls and national self-exclusion systems.

Research conducted in 2025 by the Responsible Gaming Corporation (CJR), Red Preventiva Copreventive, and Actitud Lab highlighted a growing concern among youth. The study found that 14% of Chilean young people had engaged in online betting over the previous year, with an average starting age of 15.5 years.
