Chilean family wineries expand into international markets

Small-scale and associative family wineries in Chile are expanding into international markets, supported by the Institute for Agricultural Development (INDAP). A significant milestone occurred when the Empresa Asociativa Campesina Moscin, a cooperative of 14 small producers from the Itata Valley in Coelemu, exported 4,000 bottles of Moscatel de Alejandría to Sweden in 2023.

This movement focuses on the internationalization of heritage grape varieties, such as País and Moscatel, which have been preserved by family farms for centuries. More than 4,000 small-scale farmers are participating in this long-term strategy, which emphasizes sustainability, modern vinification, and market diversification to overcome regional challenges like droughts and storms.
