Chilean farmers adopt sustainable agriculture via INDAP and INIA programs
Farmers from the Ninhue and Trehuaco communes in the Ñuble region of Chile are transitioning toward sustainable agriculture through the Sustainable Agriculture Transition (TAS) program. The initiative, driven by INIA and INDAP, recently concluded its first year of work with a regional meeting held at INIA Quilamapu.
The program involves 74 producers and focuses on four primary areas: agroecological management of soil and water, biodiversity, and sanitary management. Participants have been working on practices to recover soil physical, chemical, and biological characteristics, increase functional biodiversity, and improve water efficiency.
During the regional meeting, which included 120 attendees, technical sessions focused on biological control, the production of bioinputs, and the critical role of pollinating insects. Researcher María Esperanza Sepúlveda noted that the program aims to provide farmers with technical knowledge tailored to their specific territories to ensure long-term sustainability.
