Chilean Finance Minister requests resignation of Customs Director
Chilean Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz has requested the immediate resignation of Alejandra Arriaza, the National Director of the National Customs Service. Arriaza, who has led the institution since 2022 and was the first woman to hold the position, will be replaced on an interim basis by Legal Deputy Director María Jazmín Rodríguez.
While the government has not provided official reasons for the removal, the decision follows allegations regarding potential overpricing in a tender for scanner trucks used for border and port inspections. Additionally, the National Association of Customs Officials (Anfach) issued a statement criticizing labor overexertion and a critical shortage of personnel, particularly within the San Antonio Regional Customs Directorate.
