Chilean Foreign Minister faces historic parliamentary interpellation

Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna is set to face a historic parliamentary interpellation before the Chamber of Deputies. This marks the first time a Foreign Minister has been summoned under this constitutional mechanism since its implementation in 2005, and the first cabinet member of President José Antonio Kast's administration to undergo such a process.

Led by Socialist Deputy Nelson Venegas, the interrogation will cover 13 key points regarding the first six months of the administration's foreign policy. Major topics include Chile's recent entry into the Escudo de las Américas security pact with the United States and ongoing sovereignty disputes regarding the Strait of Magellan following controversial statements by Argentine officials.

Opposition members have criticized the current administration's diplomatic management, with Venegas describing the Foreign Minister's performance as "pusillanimous and ambiguous" and accusing the ministry of failing to defend national interests.
