Chilean forward Nicolás Barrios detained after alleged police‑run‑over attempt

Nicolás Barrios, a forward for Deportes Santa Cruz, was arrested by Carabineros of the Retén Morza in Teno after officers said he and two companions tried to run over police during a traffic stop. He was charged with assault on authority and released while the investigation continues. Barrios previously faced a drug‑trafficking conviction while at Curicó Unido. Club president Alex Orellana said Barrios claims he was not driving, that a friend was behind the wheel, and that the detention was linked to his prior conviction. Orellana said he will meet the player to discuss the incident.
