Chilean government seeks replacement for Biobío presidential delegate

The Chilean government is evaluating candidates to replace Julio Anativia as the presidential delegate for the Biobío region following his resignation. Government spokesperson Daniel Pacheco confirmed that several names have been proposed, with an announcement expected this week.

Potential candidates include Sintia Leyton, the current Director of Community Development for the Municipality of Concepción; Jorge Sabag, president of the EFE Sur board; and former deputy Iván Norambuena.

Anativia resigned following allegations of domestic violence. In a recent interview, Anativia denied the accusations, stating he is a victim of the situation and that the claims were made public for political reasons. He noted that he had filed criminal complaints in August regarding threats, extortion, and physical aggression. He characterized his resignation as a voluntary move to focus on his legal defense and clear his name.
