Cofepris issues health alerts for falsified medications in Mexico

The Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has issued urgent health alerts in Mexico regarding the falsification and adulteration of four widely used medical products: Saizen, Bedoyecta, Buscapina Compositum, and Granulox.

Specific irregularities include:

• Saizen 20 mg: Several injectable lots were identified as falsified or failing sterility tests. • Bedoyecta: Capsules in lots 230593 and 230589 were flagged as having no official distribution or packaging records. • Buscapina Compositum: Multiple lots, including CMXA001, CNXA001, CMXA007, MXA007, and C57411, were found to have altered expiration dates or non-existent packaging formats. • Granulox: An aerosol for wound treatment (lot 16115143) was found with an expiration date modified from November 2019 to December 2026.

Cofepris warned that because the manufacturing, storage, and transport conditions of these products are unknown, their safety, quality, and efficacy cannot be guaranteed. Authorities advise consumers to inspect packaging, security holograms, and lot numbers carefully, and to purchase medications only from regulated pharmacies.
