Chilean hospital infrastructure projects face progress and funding hurdles

Healthcare infrastructure projects in Chile are seeing both significant construction progress and emerging financial challenges. In the Los Ríos region, the Ministry of Public Works is advancing the construction of new hospitals in Los Lagos, Río Bueno, and La Unión with an investment of approximately 230 billion pesos.

The Los Lagos facility is at 70% completion and is entering its final construction stages, focusing on interior installations and exterior works. The Río Bueno hospital has reached 63% progress, with its structural work completed. This medium-complexity facility involves a 92 billion peso investment.

In contrast, the nearly completed Ñuble Regional Hospital faces uncertainty regarding operational funding. Despite reaching over 90% completion, concerns have arisen regarding the budget required to begin operations. While the Ministry of Finance has reportedly committed at least 2 billion pesos toward essential startup costs, local authorities and officials have highlighted a significant gap in staffing, with an estimated shortage of 1,200 personnel.
