Chilean Labor Courts Order Multi‑Million Compensation in Wrongful Dismissal Cases

A Chilean labor court ruled that the Conservador de Bienes Raíces of Calama, Álvaro Toledo Soto, illegally dismissed a worker who had reported sexual harassment. The court ordered Toledo Soto to pay more than 16.9 million Chilean pesos in compensation, including indemnities, interest and legal costs, citing retaliation and violation of fundamental rights.

In a separate case, the Labor Court of Punta Arenas ordered two local foundations—Fundación FIDE XII and Fundación Educacional Ex Ducere—to pay over 117 million Chilean pesos to a long‑time accountant who was dismissed after being led to believe her contract would end by mutual agreement. The court found the employer’s actions breached good‑faith principles and fundamental labor rights, mandating full indemnification.
