Chilean lawmakers back legal action over student march violence

Chilean lawmakers Paz Charpentier and Macarena Santelices have expressed support for a legal complaint filed by Solidaridad UC following violent incidents during a Confech-organized march on October 1. The legal action follows physical aggressions and intimidation near the central headquarters of the Universidad Católica.

According to Solidaridad UC, ten students required medical attention due to the incidents, with four being transported to a hospital. The deputies emphasized the importance of pursuing legal responsibility to prevent political violence from being used as a tool for social change, referencing the need to avoid a recurrence of the social unrest seen in October 2019.
