Chilean medical license issuance falls amid increased fiscal oversight

In Chile, the issuance of medical licenses fell by 16% between January and July 2026 compared to the previous year. This decline is attributed to strengthened oversight and the implementation of VigIA, a data science system designed to identify high-risk patterns and irregular behaviors. The Superintendencia de Seguridad Social has initiated 416 investigations, resulting in 62 sanctions and fines totaling $257 million. Additionally, 122 cases have been referred to the Public Ministry for potential criminal investigation. The reduction in licenses represents an estimated $1.1 billion in decreased subsidies and procedures, though authorities noted this is not necessarily a direct accounting saving for the state.

In Colombia, the Prosperidad Social agency has rescheduled the fourth cycle of the Renta Joven program. Payments for 1,557 participants via bank transfer will occur on September 3, followed by cash withdrawals for 1,171 students on September 4. The total investment for this cycle is 1,091 million pesos. The rescheduling was implemented to ensure a smooth transition to the Universal Income Registry (RUI), a new socioeconomic measurement tool designed to verify eligibility and prevent service interruptions for beneficiaries.
