Chilean mining companies recognized for regional development and sustainability
Chilean mining companies are receiving recognition for their long-term regional contributions and commitment to sustainability.
Minera El Abra is celebrating 30 years of operations in the Antofagasta Region. Since producing its first copper cathode in August 1996, the company has focused on operational excellence and community engagement. In 2025, the company recorded its highest social investment in five years, exceeding US$6.4 million directed toward education, local development, the environment, and cultural heritage. Key initiatives include long-term support for the Colegio Técnico Don Bosco de Calama and indigenous scholarship programs.
Additionally, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) was awarded the ‘San Lorenzo’ recognition by the National Mining Society (SONAMI) during Miner's Day celebrations in the Atacama Region. The award highlights CMP's historical presence in the Huasco province and its contributions to regional development through strategic operations such as Mina Los Colorados, the Pellets Plant, and Puerto Guacolda II. The distinction emphasizes the company's efforts in sustainable mining and its strategic relationship with local communities and small-scale miners.
