Chilean mining official promotes Codelco partnerships in London

At the ChileDay event in London, Chile’s Biminister of Economy and Mining, Daniel Mas, emphasized the importance of strategic alliances between the state-owned company Codelco and private capital to drive development in copper and lithium.

Mas highlighted existing partnerships with companies such as Freeport, Teck, SQM, Anglo, and Rio Tinto as successful models for resource development. He expressed a desire to attract more private actors to lead investment initiatives, particularly in the lithium sector.

Regarding lithium, Mas noted progress with the submission of two operational contracts (CEOL) to the Comptroller General, with three more expected soon. The government aims to foster a competitive investment environment by simplifying regulations, reducing tax burdens, and providing legal certainty to unlock the country’s mining potential.
