Chilean Ministry of Agriculture provides aid to farmers hit by severe weather
The Chilean Ministry of Agriculture has begun providing relief to farmers affected by severe weather systems in the La Araucanía and Los Ríos regions. In Purén, the ministry delivered 11 tons of animal feed to 31 small-scale farmers to mitigate the impact of heavy rains, flooding, and winds exceeding 100 km/h experienced during July and August.
Authorities have identified approximately 5,600 registered farmers in the region, including 445 who are not affiliated with INDAP. The ministry is prioritizing immediate aid for small producers through a structured delivery plan.
In the Los Ríos region, officials are utilizing the Silvo-Agricultural Affectation Form (FAS) to verify damages in rural sectors such as Mariquina. This digital and georeferenced tool allows for the registration of losses regarding crops, livestock, irrigation systems, and infrastructure. The agricultural emergency declaration for Los Ríos was issued on August 6 following technical assessments.
