Chilean municipalities invest in security cameras and surveillance
Municipalities in Chile are implementing various security measures to combat crime. In Chillán, located in the Ñuble region, 67 new surveillance cameras have been installed as part of a project funded by the Regional Government. This initiative, exceeding 1 billion pesos, aims to strengthen security in high-crime areas based on analysis from Carabineros, the Investigative Police (PDI), and the Prosecutor's Office. The system will be managed by the municipal Public Security Directorate from a monitoring center at the Nelson Oyarzún Stadium, supported by 25 operators and 84 Wi-Fi connection points.
In Valdivia, the municipality has awarded 23 neighborhood security projects through its Fonseve fund. These projects include the installation of security cameras, LED lighting, community alarms, panic buttons, and perimeter fencing. Approximately 50 million pesos were allocated in this latest round, targeting both urban and rural sectors, such as Cufeo Oriente, to address issues like theft and livestock rustling.
