Chilean municipalities manage local budget allocations and planning

In Quillota, the Municipal Council has unanimously ratified the results of the 2026 Sports Participatory Budgets. The process saw a record participation of 3,354 voters between September 2 and September 6. A total of $35 million will be distributed among 25 sports organizations to fund projects based on their specific needs and aspirations.

Meanwhile, in Chillán, the Municipal Council has begun discussions regarding the 2027 budget. While some council members have raised concerns regarding delays in receiving the financial proposal from Mayor Camilo Benavente’s administration, the Communal Planning Secretariat (Secpla) stated that the document is being finalized and will be presented on October 15. The budget process is expected to conclude with approval by December 15, 2026. Municipal accounts have shown significant growth over recent years, rising from $39,895 million in 2022 to $66,886 million in the current year.
