Chilean municipalities receive FIGEM funds for management performance
Several Chilean municipalities have been awarded funds from the Municipal Management Improvement Incentive Fund (FIGEM), administered by the Undersecretariat of Regional and Administrative Development (Subdere). These funds are awarded based on objective performance indicators rather than specific project applications, including legal compliance, transparency, administrative responsibility, and the balance between municipal income and expenses.
In the Molina commune, the administration received over $122 million pesos, which is designated for capital expenditures and municipal investment initiatives. In the Ñuble region, at least 11 municipalities benefited from the fund. Specifically, the communes of Bulnes and El Carmen reported receiving $92.2 million pesos each.
According to Subdere officials, FIGEM resources are strictly reserved for capital expenditures—such as infrastructure, equipment, and vehicles—and cannot be used for current operating expenses like salaries.
