Chilean Navy ends search for Talymar crew after nine days

The Chilean Navy has concluded the active search and rescue phase for the crew of the motorboat Talymar after nine days of continuous operations in the waters of the Chilean Antarctic Province. The Maritime Governorate of Puerto Williams informed families of the decision following 216 hours of uninterrupted searching.

The operation involved more than 100 personnel from the Beagle Naval District, the Southern Aero-Naval Group, and the Naval Operations Command. Support was also provided by the Puerto Williams Fire Department and local artisanal fishing vessels, which assisted in maritime, aerial, coastal, and submarine tracking.

The decision to end the intensive phase follows international protocols and an assessment of the time elapsed relative to reasonable survival margins in southern maritime conditions. The Talymar was reported missing after losing communication in the southwestern sector of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. Difficult weather and complex geography had previously hindered search efforts.
