Chilean Navy issues waterspout warning for coastal regions

The Chilean Navy, through the Talcahuano Marine Meteorology Zonal Center, has issued a special warning regarding the probability of convective clouds generating waterspouts. The phenomenon is expected to affect the oceanic and coastal sectors from Lebu to the Los Rios Region.

The warning is effective from 12:00 on Thursday, November 5, until 13:00 on Friday, November 6, 2026. The most critical period is identified between 17:00 on Thursday and 09:00 on Friday. This weather condition is linked to the movement of a frontal system associated with a low-pressure area of 998 hPa.

Authorities have issued several safety recommendations for maritime and coastal activities. Vessels are advised to navigate in the opposite direction of any observed waterspout. For those on land, it is recommended to move to the lowest level of a building, such as interior rooms, bathrooms, or closets, and to stay away from the coastline if a waterspout is seen forming in the sea.
