ChileDay 2026: Chilean officials promote investment in Madrid
The ChileDay 2026 summit has commenced in Madrid, bringing together Chilean government officials and international investors to promote the country as a destination for capital and technological development. Key attendees include Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz, Economy Minister Daniel Mas, and Central Bank President Rosanna Costa.
During her presentation, Rosanna Costa addressed the impact of rising fuel costs on the Chilean economy. She stated that “the economy had the space to absorb this shock,” noting that while energy costs have inflationary implications, they have also moderated consumption due to weakened household income. She emphasized that monetary policy must evaluate the magnitude and persistence of such shocks rather than reacting automatically.
In a related economic development, the IMF's Bikas Joshi expressed support for the economic agenda of President José Antonio Kast's administration. Joshi projected a recovery by 2027, suggesting Chile could achieve approximately 3% annual growth in the medium term if copper prices remain high and regulatory reforms, such as streamlining permit processes, are implemented.
Additionally, Public Works Minister Louis De Grange defended the government's decision to halt transport corridor concessions in Biobío, arguing the previous model would have resulted in higher costs through subsidies.
