Chilean organizations advocate for mountain ecosystems as strategic assets

In Chile, organizations including FSC Chile, the Asociación Parque Cordillera, and the Fondo de Agua Santiago-Maipo have gathered at the Santiago Chamber of Commerce to advocate for the protection of mountain ecosystems. They frame these natural environments as strategic partners for both society and the business sector, providing essential ecosystem services such as water provision, soil protection, carbon storage, and air quality regulation.

Participants emphasized that mountain forests constitute a critical natural infrastructure necessary for economic development and human quality of life. The initiative highlights the need for adequate financial support and fair compensation mechanisms to ensure ecosystem health, noting that forests without economic returns for their managers are often more vulnerable to degradation.
