Chilean outlet industry expands amid rising price sensitivity
The outlet retail model is experiencing significant growth in Chile as consumers become increasingly sensitive to prices. There are currently 20 operational outlets in the country, with five additional projects under development in locations such as Buin, Maipú, La Calera, Quilpué, and Osorno.
According to the Asociación Gremial Marcas del Retail (MDR), 59% of brands attribute this expansion to consumers seeking a better price-quality ratio. Andrés Bogolasky, president of MDR, noted that shoppers are now prioritizing final costs and looking for ways to optimize their purchasing decisions by accessing brand-name products at more convenient prices.
This shift occurs during a period of cautious spending. Data from the Cámara Nacional de Comercio (CNC) indicates that retail sales in the Metropolitan Region saw only a 4.3% increase in July, with cumulative growth remaining largely stagnant since the beginning of the year. This environment has driven a more rational approach to shopping, with a focus on promotions and discount events.
