Chilean poll: 62% view Universal Daycare as a child's right

A recent Plaza Pública Cadem poll conducted in the third week of September indicates that 62% of Chileans view Universal Daycare as an inherent right of children to early childhood education. This figure contrasts with 32% who view it primarily as a labor benefit associated with mothers.

The survey comes as the project moves through the legislative process, having been approved by the Senate and awaiting discussion in the Chamber of Deputies. Regarding the priorities of such a law, 41% of respondents believe all families should have access regardless of their employment status, while 30% prioritize facilitating the entry of more women into the workforce.

Gender differences were noted in priorities: 45% of men prioritize universal access for all families compared to 36% of women, whereas 36% of women prioritize female labor insertion compared to 25% of men. Additionally, 87% of those surveyed believe the measure would “much or quite a bit” help increase female labor participation.
