Chilean President José Antonio Kast faces record low approval ratings

President José Antonio Kast is experiencing a significant decline in popularity, with recent polling from Cadem and Criteria showing his approval ratings falling below 30% for the first time. According to Cadem, his approval dropped to 29% while disapproval rose to 66%. Similarly, the Criteria poll reported an approval rating of 27% and a disapproval rating of 64%.

The downturn is largely attributed to public outcry over the government's decision to reduce sentences for 56 individuals convicted of sexual offenses against minors. Polling indicates that 92% of respondents disagree with these sentence reductions. This controversy has led to political pressure, including calls from various political parties for the resignation of Justice Minister Fernando Rabat, though Rabat has declined to step down.

Other factors impacting public perception include concerns over pension fund losses and economic management. Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz has emerged as one of the lowest-rated members of the cabinet. While sectors such as housing and immigration received relatively positive evaluations, areas including justice, communications, and the economy face significant criticism.
