Chilean prison inmates participate in cultural and artistic reintegration programs

Inmates at various Chilean correctional facilities have participated in cultural and artistic activities designed to support social reintegration and the constructive use of time.

At the Parral Penitentiary Center, inmates celebrated national holidays through a folklore showcase. Organized by the ‘Arte Educador’ program and the Remigio Agurto Fuentes School, the event featured traditional Chilean music and dances, such as the cueca. The program, led by monitor Fatima Carreño, allows inmates to learn musical instruments and vocal performance.

Similarly, the Arica Female Penitentiary Center hosted a community day featuring a musical talent competition and a sustainable fashion show. Participants created high-fashion garments and accessories using recycled materials, including cardboard, plastic bags, and magazines. Officials noted that these artistic spaces are essential for personal growth and fostering respectful coexistence within the facility.
