La Araucanía prosecutors investigate Telegram groups sharing intimate images

The Regional Prosecutor's Office of La Araucanía has launched an official investigation into Telegram communities in Temuco, Padre Las Casas, and Gorbea for the unauthorized mass distribution of intimate photos and videos. The groups, which reportedly include thousands of members, allegedly shared content obtained from social media platforms like Instagram and dating apps such as Tinder.

Investigators are looking into the potential involvement of organized criminal activity, as some participants reportedly shared the personal addresses and contact information of the victims, leading to fears of targeted harassment. A particularly serious aspect of the case is the potential presence of a 16-year-old minor among the affected individuals, which could lead to more severe criminal charges.

The PDI's Cybercrime Unit is leading the investigation under the direction of the Public Ministry. Meanwhile, the Association of Feminist Lawyers of La Araucanía (Abofem) is providing legal guidance to victims, advising them to preserve digital evidence such as screenshots and chat logs.
