Chilean prosecutors seek 14 years for Manuel Monsalve

Chilean prosecutors have filed an accusation against former Undersecretary of the Interior Manuel Monsalve, requesting a total prison sentence of 14 years. The prosecution, led by Regional Prosecutor Francisco Jacir and assistant prosecutor Marcelo Borbarán, alleges that Monsalve is the perpetrator of rape and sexual abuse of a person over 14 years of age.

The 73-page document details two specific incidents occurring between the night of September 22 and the early morning of September 23 at the Panamericano Hotel. The requested penalty consists of 10 years and one day of 'presidio mayor' for rape, plus 4 years and one day of 'presidio menor' for sexual abuse.

The prosecution has submitted a list of 89 witnesses, including high-ranking political figures such as President Gabriel Boric, former Interior Minister Carolina Tohá, and former Security Minister Luis Cordero. These witnesses are expected to testify regarding their professional relationship with the accused and the accounts provided to them concerning the alleged events. The oral trial preparation hearing is scheduled for October 5.
