Chilean public opinion opposes pardons for human rights violators

According to the latest Criteria Agenda survey, 61% of the Chilean public opposes granting pardons to military personnel convicted of human rights violations committed during the dictatorship. This represents a two-percentage-point increase from September. Even in cases involving terminal illnesses, 56% of respondents reject pardons for these individuals.

Regarding pardons for Carabineros involved in crimes during the social unrest (Estallido Social), 53% of participants are against the measure, while 40% support it. The survey highlights significant ideological divides: among those identifying with the left, rejection rates for dictatorship-era pardons reach 91%, whereas 50% of those on the right support such measures.
