Chilean regional media celebrate major anniversaries

Regional media outlets in southern Chile are marking significant milestones. The digital newspaper El Gong is celebrating its 26th anniversary, having been founded on September 13, 2000. Under the leadership of Gustavo Cid Asenjo, the outlet emerged during the early stages of internet access in Chile to provide independent reporting and pluralism for the southern macro-region, focusing on local community demands and socio-environmental issues.

In Puerto Varas, a seminar was held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of El Heraldo Austral. The event featured prominent national journalists, including Constanza Santa María, Ramón Ulloa, and Soledad Onetto, who discussed the role of social media in community history and the current challenges facing the profession. The seminar emphasized the importance of regional media in the cultural and social development of local communes.
