Chilean regional sports authorities promote funding and new national policies

Sports authorities in Chile are working to enhance regional athletic development through new funding mechanisms and national policy frameworks.

In the La Araucanía region, the Seremia del Deporte, the Internal Revenue Service (SII), and the National Institute of Sports (IND) are coordinating to promote the Sports Donation Law. This mechanism allows private contributions to be channeled toward sports initiatives. To increase participation, officials plan to hold training sessions in late November to guide companies and sports clubs on how to utilize this financing tool.

In the Biobío region, Seremi de Deporte Gerardo Segovia highlighted the implementation of the National Physical Activity and Sports Policy 2026-2037. This roadmap focuses on two pillars: lifelong physical activity and high-performance sports. The policy aims to decentralize sports development across the 33 communes of Biobío, establishing a subsystem for high-performance athletes and a community sports subsystem designed to combat sedentary lifestyles among children and youth.
