Chilean regions host regional cueca championships for seniors

Regional cueca championships for senior citizens are being held across different Chilean regions to promote cultural preservation and active aging through the SENAMA program.

In the Maule Region, the commune of Pelarco has been selected as the host for the 2026 Regional Cueca Championship for Seniors. The event is scheduled for September 11 at the Pelarco Municipal Gymnasium, where nine couples representing various provinces of the region will compete. Local authorities emphasized that the tournament aims to strengthen participation among older adults and preserve the national dance.

In the La Araucanía Region, the 26th Regional Cueca Championship for Seniors recently concluded in Ercilla. The winning pair, Gerónimo Rapiman and Patricia Cataldo from Temuco, will represent the region at the National Senior Cueca Championship in Tomé later this month. The competition was part of SENAMA’s Active Aging Program, designed to encourage healthy and participatory lifestyles for older populations.
