Chilean reports address STEM gender gaps and Magallanes regional development

In Chile, a study conducted by Duoc UC, SONDA, and Generation highlights a significant gender gap in STEM fields. While women comprise 53% of higher education enrollment, they represent only 21.38% of STEM students. The report suggests that a lack of female role models and barriers to professional integration contribute to this disparity, which could impact future productivity as STEM-related jobs are expected to comprise 75% of employment by 2050.

In the Magallanes region, the Regional Productive Development Committee (CDPR) has allocated 98% of its available resources to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. With 1,087 million pesos assigned, the committee is targeting strategic sectors including food, tourism, energy, and Antarctica. Logistics and construction are being treated as transversal pillars to enhance regional competitiveness and support growth in these key areas.
