Chilean rescue teams resume search for missing climber in Laguna del Inca
Rescue teams are set to resume the search for a third climber missing in Chile’s Laguna del Inca following an avalanche on Saturday. The incident involved a group of hikers from various Santiago clubs who were descending from the Los Tres Hermanos area when the avalanche occurred.
Authorities have already rescued four individuals and recovered the bodies of two victims. The third missing person is believed to have been pulled into the freezing waters of the lagoon, potentially due to the weight of a backpack.
A multi-agency operation involving the Chilean Navy, Army, Carabineros, Firefighters, the Investigative Police (PDI), and the Legal Medical Service (SML) has established a command post at Hotel Portillo. Previous search efforts were suspended due to hazardous weather conditions and the risk of further avalanches.
