Chilean researchers develop climate-resilient trees
Researchers in Chile are working to develop forest species capable of adapting to the effects of climate change. A collaborative research project involving the University of Talca, the University of Concepción, and the University of Chile is investigating how eucalyptus and pine trees respond to increased drought and wind intensity.
Led by Raúl Herrera from the Institute of Biological Sciences at the University of Talca, the initiative uses biotechnological tools to identify biological mechanisms that allow trees to tolerate environmental stress. The study combines laboratory experiments with field research to select individuals with higher adaptive capacities for increasingly demanding climatic scenarios.
