Chilean salmon industry leaders convene in Puerto Varas

Industry leaders and specialists gathered in Puerto Varas, Chile, for major aquaculture events focused on the future of the salmon sector. The Pacific Silver 2026 forum, organized by Vitapro through its Salmofood brand, addressed the opportunities and challenges of coho salmon cultivation. Francisco Valdés, Business Manager of Vitapro Chile, noted that Chile produces approximately 90% of the world's coho salmon biomass, highlighting the species' growing importance due to favorable local conditions and genetic research.

In a separate industry gathering, the Salmon Awards 2026 recognized significant contributions to Chilean salmon farming. Carlos Díaz, CEO of BioMar Group, received a career achievement award for his three decades of experience in the aquaculture sector. During the event, Díaz emphasized Chile's natural advantages and human capital as key drivers for growth, while noting the importance of future regulations for the industry's development.
