Chilean schools and universities manage resumption following threats and emergencies
Educational activities in various parts of Chile are resuming or remaining suspended following recent emergencies and security threats.
In the Antofagasta region, schools managed by the Corporación Municipal de Desarrollo Social (CMDS) will resume classes on Monday, August 24, at 9:30 AM, with the exception of Escuela Elmo Funes, which will return on August 27. Conversely, in Tocopilla, the Seremi de Educación has ordered a suspension of all classes—including public, subsidized, and private institutions—from Monday, August 24, through Friday, August 28.
In Santiago, several universities are returning to normal operations following the rapid arrest of a suspect who threatened multiple institutions with a massacre. The Universidad Diego Portales (UDP), Universidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH), Academia de Humanismo Cristiano, and Universidad de Santiago (Usach) had previously suspended in-person activities as a precaution. Other institutions, including Universidad de Chile and Universidad de los Andes, received similar threats but opted to continue operations after evaluating the risks with authorities.
