Chilean security authorities review police technology and crime statistics

In the Tarapacá region, the Regional Ministerial Secretary of Public Security, Omar Salazar, visited the Carabineros Criminalistics Laboratory (Labocar) in Iquique. During the visit, Salazar inspected biochemistry and forensic ballistics laboratories, focusing on the IBIS Trax system. This software allows experts to store and compare ballistic information from projectiles and shell casings to identify links between different crimes and track firearms.

In Melipilla, the provincial presidential delegate, Gastón Libuy, participated in a quarterly meeting of the Tactical Police Operational System (STOP). Led by Colonel Cristian Matus of the Costa Prefecture, the meeting reviewed police statistics from the last three months. Authorities reported a decrease in crime rates and a reduction in both the relative and absolute frequency of offenses in priority areas, noting successful coordination between Carabineros and municipal security services.
