Chilean public shows strong support for Universal Childcare reform

Public support for the Universal Childcare (Sala Cuna Universal) project in Chile has reached 68%, according to a Cadem poll. There is significant backing for the reform's core objective, with 84% of respondents supporting the extension of childcare rights to all working mothers, including independent workers and domestic employees, regardless of company size.

Approximately 71% of those surveyed believe that removing current employment-based restrictions would significantly increase female labor participation and reduce unemployment. While 48% favor immediate approval of the current proposal, 39% prefer continued debate despite potential delays.

The legislative process faces hurdles after the Senate rejected the government's proposed financing formula due to a lack of quorum. The project is currently before the Chamber of Deputies, and the government must present an alternative financing model during the second stage of the legislative process.
