Chilean Senate commission assesses strategic importance of Puerto de Arica

Senators from the Senate's Commission of Extreme Zones visited the Puerto de Arica terminal to evaluate its operational reality, challenges and growth opportunities. The delegation, led by senators Enrique Lee, Vlado Mirosevic, Miguel Ángel Calisto and Carlos Kuschel, toured the facilities with port operators Pablo Veliz (TPA) and Javier Rivera (EPA).

The senators highlighted the port’s strategic role for regional economic development, its contribution to international trade, and its potential involvement in the future bio‑oceanic corridor linking Asian markets. They emphasized the need to improve competitiveness, security and infrastructure to strengthen Chile’s position and facilitate trade with neighboring Peru and Bolivia. The commission plans to continue discussing port‑related issues in upcoming sessions.
