Chilean Senator seeks budget for academic talent programs

Senator Miguel Ángel Becker is seeking to ensure the continuity of academic talent programs in Chile, specifically focusing on securing budget allocations for 2027. He intends to meet with the Education Commission to address the lack of funding for these initiatives in the 2026 Budget Law.

One key initiative is the Proenta-UFRO program, run by the Universidad de La Frontera, which serves 352 students from 14 communes in the La Araucanía region. The senator aims to restore the budgetary provisions that historically co-financed these programs, which support students with high academic capabilities through specialized cognitive and creative training.
