Chilean students lead regional initiatives on water scarcity and conservation
Educational initiatives focused on water scarcity and resource management are being implemented across different regions of Chile.
In the La Araucanía region, students from Collipulli, Temuco, and Pitrufquén participated in a regional forum titled “Observamos, dialogamos y construimos propuestas para el cuidado del agua” (We observe, we dialogue, and we build proposals for water care). Following technical training from the Regional Ministry of the Environment, sixth-grade students presented local research regarding the impact of water insufficiency on ecosystems and productive systems in their territories.
In another regional effort, the water utility Nueva Atacama has conducted “Water Cycle Fairs” in various schools. This initiative has reached over 600 students through interactive activities designed to teach the stages of water production, distribution, collection, and treatment. The program aims to foster responsible water consumption habits in households and communities, particularly in arid environments.
