Chilean students participate in regional chess leagues and literary contests

Educational initiatives in Chile are promoting chess through various regional activities. In the SLEP Puerto Cordillera region, approximately 500 students participated in the first two stages of a chess league. Held at the Padre Alberto Hurtado Cruchaga School in Coquimbo and the Liceo Bicentenario IAC Estado de Israel, the league is part of the 2026 Integral Education Plan and aims to foster concentration, logical thinking, and social interaction among students.

In San Antonio, the Municipal School Chess Coordinator is hosting a literary contest titled ‘Ajedrez en 64 palabras’ (Chess in 64 Words). As part of the 2026 San Antonio School Chess Week, students can submit original micro-stories of up to 64 words. The competition is open to students across three educational levels, from primary to secondary school, and is organized in collaboration with the local municipal library.
